Lauren Julia Nelson
Lauren Julia Nelson, age 17, is currently a freshman piano performance major at BYU. She began studying piano at the age of six, and is currently a student of Dr. Irene Peery-Fox. Lauren grew up in a musical family who always made music a part of her life. Growing up she learned violin, recorder, and flute, but found a passion for the piano. Since then she has loved learning, performing, accompanying, and teaching the piano. Over the years she has entered in a number of piano competitions and received many awards, recognitions, and prizes. At the age of 14, Lauren had the opportunity to perform the Grieg Concerto first Movement with the Utah Symphony, and this past January was privileged to perform the Grieg Concerto third movement with the Salt Lake Symphony. At East High School she participated in a number of choirs both singing and as the head accompanist her senior year. She was also East High’s Sterling Scholar Nomination for Music. Lauren loves learning about different types of music, and when home often plays jazz piano and guitar duets with her brother. Music has influenced Lauren’s life in many ways. It has brought her joy, accomplishment, and the ability to bless others lives. When not playing the piano, Lauren loves to play soccer, laugh, read, ski, play ultimate Frisbee, and eat CafĂ© Rio. She is excited to be a part of MTNA this year!
