Jackie Bodily

Jackie is a junior in piano performance at BYU and currently studies with Dr. Scott Holden. This summer, she had the opportunity to travel to the Czech Republic and attend the International Music Academy Pilsen. She also got to go to Vienna and see Beethoven's grave! Jackie was a finalist in the BYU concerto competition and received Honorable Mention at the UMTA concerto competition in 2009. She has enjoyed working as an accompanist for the BYU School of Music for the past few years and collaborating with other musicians, including performances with the BYU Wind Symphony in 2008. In addition, she has been the pianist/keyboardist for several local productions, including Les Miserables and Pirates of Penzance. Jackie teaches private piano lessons at the Art City Music Academy. She is looking forward to another fun year in MTNA!

Daniel Johnson

Daniel Johnson is a senior in the Piano Performance program at BYU. He has worked as a studio pianist, accompanist, arranger, and composer for the past seven years. His work was featured recently on the soundtrack to Receive These Things, a new musical, which he also co-produced. In the spring of 2009, he accompanied an elite group of BYU performers who showcased their work in New York and Los Angeles. He has worked as an accompanist at the Hale Center Theater, SCERA theatre, BYU School of Music, and BYU Dance Department. He is scheduled to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Music in April 2010. He loves working in the arts, and he thrives on opportunities to collaborate with seasoned artists in creative fields.

Christie Sowby
Christie is a senior in piano performance and is graduating in December 2009 with her Bachelor’s degree under the tutelage of Dr. Richard Anderson. As an undergraduate, she is taking senior credit classes to apply to her Master’s degree which she will officially start in January 2010 at BYU. Christie has also studied viola at BYU and loved being a member of the BYU Philharmonic. Learning new instruments is a fun hobby for Christie, as she has learned guitar, ukulele, marimba, harp, violin, cello, bagpipes, organ, recorders, and more. Some of her favorite past experiences with piano included performing the Rachmaninoff 2nd and Tchaikovsky 1st piano concertos with four different orchestras when she was 16, 17, and 18. Besides piano, she loves to read anything about music and is typically reading several books simultaneously. This past summer Christie and her husband, Rob, traveled around Europe and saw many famous music sites. The Vienna Philharmonic is her new favorite! Christie also enjoys exercising, cooking, and being with her family and husband. She is excited to be a part of MTNA this year and to serve others at BYU!

Ashley Johnston

Ashley is a senior and will be graduating in December 2009. She started piano at the age of 5 at the Peabody Preparatory and now studies with Irene Peery-Fox. One of her favorite aspects of piano performance is piano ensemble, particularly duo piano. Ashley and her piano partner Nicole have played together for sixteen years and plan on continuing to do so. Together they were soloists with the BYU Philharmonic in 2008. Her other passion is teaching and plans on doing this for her career. Lately, she has been interested in Education Psychology after reading 7 Kinds of Smart and In Their Own Way by Thomas Armstrong. She has been in Los Angeles this past summer with her husband, Ryan Smith.

Britny Clark

Britny Clark studied piano for nine years before taking a five year hiatus from music to study science and work at a hospital as a cardiopulmonary intern. She resumed piano three years ago at BYU with Dr. Scott Holden, where she is on full scholarship and is one of four students selected to become a Reid Nibley scholar. During the summers of 2008 and 2009, Britny was awarded several grants—including an MTNA Teacher Enrichment Grant—which enabled her to travel to the Czech Republic, where she attended the International Music Academy Pilsen at the Pilsen Conservatory. Britny highly values contemporary music; she also has a strong interest in new and unconventional forms of pedagogy. This fall, Britny is looking forward to learning how to play the gamelan as one of the newest members of Gamelan Bintang Wahyu, BYU’s Balinese percussion orchestra. In February 2010, Britny plans to audition at several schools—including University of Michigan, Mannes School of Music, and Yale University—in pursuit of her Master’s degree. Britny will graduate from BYU with a B.M. in Piano Performance this April.
